In Italy, the Livorno Province, the project started later than hoped due to strikes in schools.
-
5 schools were selected and involved directly in the project activity
-
Each school had a School Energy Management Team divided into different roles (Senior Project Manager , Project Manager, Marketing Manager, Computer Manager, Energy Expert)
-
Each SEMT member had a role (some students took care of windows, others of walls, others of ceilings and floors; some other students produced communication materials: leaflets, newsletters, posters, press articles etc; others prepared Power Point presentations)
-
Each SEMT was met by EALP’ expert at appropriate stages in the project work:
1. to introduce the project and define the students’ roles in the SEMT
2. to explain climate change and the environmental problems linked to energy use and production
3. introduce how an energy audit could be carried out and introduce the software into which the data would be input
4. to make the measurements and take the useful data for the input into the software
5. to introduce data into the software and get the output of the enquiry (the energy situation of the school building) -
EALP’s activities were really appreciated and the methodology used easy to follow by students (according to the teachers)
-
Another 2 meetings with the SEMT were held to monitor the energy situation, to find solutions to reduce energy consumption in school and to check the energy saving campaign carried out by students
-
5 Work placements were identified: 2 Port Authorities, an Agricultural Company, an Electric Appliances Producer and Installer and an Environmental Agency. All had an energy audit carried out on their building. Students will have to go to the Workplace to gather bills and consumption data, to make measurements and fill in the software with the proper collected data
-
3 Information days were held in May (in Livorno, Cecina and Piombino) where results were communicated to the whole community
